To the Editor: Regarding "California in My Mind," by Jeff Gordinier (Oct. 21), some favorites of mine around Laguna Beach: The Stand is great. There's Five Crowns in Corona del Mar, but I would also vouch for the SideDoor, an English-style pub. It's also a few blocks away from Little Corona del Mar, a lovely tucked-away state beach. The sunsets there are to die for. And don't ignore Crystal Cove beach, either. In Corona del Mar, I highly recommend the Crow Bar and Kitchen, on the Pacific Coast Highway. It's a gastropub with excellent burgers and entrees, a wonderful beer selection, a great atmosphere and it's almost never overcrowded. On 17th Street in Costa Mesa, there's a small, stellar record store, Factory Records, down the street from some of the best coffee, at Kean Coffee.

To the Editor: The article lacks a comparison of real estate prices in 1982 versus 2012. Visiting is one thing; being able to afford to live there is something else.
