Campo de Ourique has a long history of exceptionalism. This uptown Lisbon neighborhood survived the earthquake of 1755 and went on to become a hotbed of revolutionary thinking that helped establish the Portuguese Republic in 1910. Today, it's a district that maintains a village-of-yore ambience with safe, tree-lined streets and a leafy park. While it has never been a tourist destination, that's changing thanks to an influx of younger residents and a vanguard of shopping and dining options.
