In case you were considering a dip in one of Venice's canals, don't or expect to pay fines up to 500 euro. The city of Venice recently released a list of 10 no-nos aimed at tourists in a new campaign entitled "Venezia è anche tua, rispettala!" (Venice is yours too, respect it!).
Among the prohibitions are picnicking in the area around St. Mark's Basilica, feeding the pigeons, wearing bathing suits in public or appearing bare-chested, littering and being loud after 11 p.m. In addition, the posters, which appear in seven languages around town, politely advise walking on the right down the narrow calli or lanes to avoid pedestrian collisions.
