Want jewelry from a hotel? You can save your mask and gloves, but you'd better bring a wedding dress. Despite the theft at the Carlton in Cannes, a number of hotels are continuing new programs in which they lend jewels out to brides.
The Westin Beach Resort & Spa in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., for example, introduced its "All That Shimmers" package in July that's open to couples who book a wedding at the property. (Starts at $150 per wedding guest.) In addition to offering amenities like spa treatments and a complimentary anniversary stay, the hotel lets brides borrow up to $100,000 worth of gems from the local Levinson Jewelers. They can pick from a variety of diamond pieces like a pair of $38,000 drop earrings and an $18,000 cuff bracelet.
And one new perk for brides who choose the Rome Cavalieri, a Waldorf Astoria hotel, for their wedding day is to borrow jewelry from the collections designed by the Italian princesses Lucia Odescalchi and Grazia Borghese, whose pieces range from $1,300 to $130,000. Once the couple has confirmed the hotel as the site of their nuptials, brides work with the princesses' studios to choose the jewels.
All three Montage Hotels and Resorts – in Beverly Hills and Laguna Beach, Calif., and Deer Valley, Utah – recently introduced "Something Borrowed," a program that allows brides getting married at the properties to work with local jewelers to pick pieces for their wedding.
