After a $15 million investment, Palacio del Inka in Cuszco, Peru, has opened under Starwood's Luxury Collection banner after 21 months' construction.
The central 16th-century building located directly across from the Inca temple known as the Qurikancha was originally built as the home of a leading Spanish conquistador and became a hotel 36 years ago. The current gut-remodeled Qurikanchael updated all 203 guestrooms with features including coffered wood niches, gold-leaf-accented headboards and marble bathrooms. Seventeen top suites have 13-foot ceilings.
The upgraded hotel will open a spa for the first time, a six-treatment-room area where signature services include a hydrotherapy bath and leg massage designed for Inca Trail hikers.
Rates start at $315.
