In Transit Blog: More Flowers for Brussels

Fans of the biennial "Flower Carpet," the elaborately patterned blooms that form a tapestry covering Brussels' central square every other August, will be happy to learn that the capital of Belgium is adding an alternating floral display on odd years.

Running  Aug. 15 to 18, the Floralientime flower show will transform Brussels City Hall into a large-scale exhibition of floral and botanical art. Visitors will be able to tour areas of the 15th-century Gothic building that aren't typically open to the public to see flowers and arrangements filling boardrooms, reception areas and the grand entrance hall.

The spaces will be decorated by well-known floral artists and landscape architects associated with the twice-a-decade Floralien flower show.

Outside, the square, known as Grand Place, will be the backdrop to a "relaxation garden" where visitors can stroll through a forest of bay trees. Aug. 15 to 18, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., admission 5 euros, free for children under 12. Tickets and information at www.floralientime.be.
