SLIDE SHOW
EASY RIDER

Buffa logged around 150 miles a day for six days in Sardinia, then headed to Sicily for some much-needed R&R. More…

As the co-owner of the Brooklyn restaurants Vinegar Hill House and Hillside and the impresario behind the Fellow Barber mini-empire of elegant, old-timey men's grooming salons, Sam Buffa is already the subject of major male lifestyle envy. The 35-year-old seems even more the embodiment of a certain type of guy's fantasy life when you learn that he also races motorcycles, something he started doing with his dad as a kid growing up in Half Moon Bay, Calif.

Earlier this fall, Buffa represented Team USA in the ISDE, an acronym for the awkwardly named "International Six Days of Enduro," the granddaddy of off-road motorcycle competitions, which held its centennial edition from Sept. 30 to Oct. 5 on the Italian island of Sardinia. "It's definitely the marathon of motorsports," he says. His group finished second, the first time the American team had ever done that. (France got No. 1.) Here, he recounts his race experiences, as well as a few of the moments in Sicily he shared afterward with Jean Adamson (his partner in the restaurants and in life) and his family.
