Travelers can get a double hit of culture with a new biking trip from the Bristol, Vt.-based travel outfitter VBT Bicycling and Walking Vacations, which focuses on Greek civilization in Sicily.

The 10-day itinerary covers the island's southeast coast, where the Greeks invaded in the eighth century B.C., and involves 20 to 50 miles of biking daily.

Two local historians will lead travelers through the Greek sites that include amphitheaters like the one in the town of Taormina, ruins along the water and an archaeological park in Siragusa where there are old homes and temples.

The company president Gregg Marston said that the company decided to offer the tour because of the blend of unique of cultures bikers can experience. "All of Italy is historically rich, but this part stands out because of the Greek past," he said in a telephone interview.

Non-Greek adventures on the trip include seeing the Baroque palaces and churches in Ragusa Ibla, preparing eggplant rolls with a local chef and touring a chocolate factory in Modica.

Prices start at $3,495 including international airfare. A $300 discount applies during certain periods.
