The Gladstone Hotel, Toronto The travel industry has largely left Black History Month promotions to museums and other educational institutions. The Gladstone, sensing a wasted opportunity, has embraced the occasion with programming that does not feel like homework. In addition to a photo exhibition through Feb. 28 on Caribbean dance-hall (above, "Daddy Ants With Track, Youth Promotion Yard"), the hotel has scheduled a CD release party for a Cameroonian singer on Feb. 22 and a screening of "The Harder They Come" on Feb. 24. British Library, London Now that the most literary of deaths, that of Richard III, has been all but settled, Anglophiles who are into murder mysteries may want to take in a show at the British Library. "Murder in the Library: An A-Z of Crime Fiction," through May 12, skips Shakespeare for later, well-known writers like Agatha Christie and unexpected ones, like Gypsy Rose Lee. Highlights include Arthur Conan Doyle's manuscript of a Sherlock Holmes short story published in 1926, and a jacket of "The Maltese Falcon." (bl.uk)
Disneyland, Anaheim, Calif. Disney does slapstick. Well, sort of. Fantasy Faire, an area within Fantasyland that is to open on March 12, will feature the Royal Theater, a gothic tentlike structure where storytellers will perform shows inspired by "Beauty and the Beast" and "Tangled" in a style reminiscent of vaudeville duos. Aspiring princesses need not worry. They will be received in the Royal Hall by indefinitely reigning princesses including Ariel from "The Little Mermaid" and Cinderella. (disneyland.disney.go.com)
